Star Wars in Concert

What could be more fun than George Lucas, John Williams and musicians of the Royal Philharmonic? All came together last night for Star Wars in Concert at the UC. If you’ve watched our sister station WTTW 11 recently, you may know that the show is in the midst of a national tour…and travels to Europe next. Even better news (told to me by my cousin – one of the show producers) is that Star Wars in Concert returns to Chicago in June 2010. What can I say? I love Star Wars, big arena events and great orchestral playing. For me, this is IT!

Here’s a recent clip from the tour. It’s not the best-shot video, but it gives you a sense of the electricity in the arena…and what it’s like to be there. And note at 2:48 the audience’s surprise and delight with what happens on screen…

Peter,The video window is partially cut off (mostly on the right) by parts of your blog page. I always thought audiences were forbidden to tape or otherwise record live performances. But maybe since you are just posting the link from the perpetrator, you aren't a party after the fact? Can you confirm what I heard about the chorus for this show? That they are a "pick-up" group from city to city, for which a local choral director is hired just for that performance? If true, who was credited in the program for Chicago?

The concert was spectacular, in no small part due to the fabulous chorus, which for this concert was Chicago's own Apollo Chorus! Star Wars may be gone, but you can see the chorus the following two weekends perform Handel's Messiah.
