Deutsche Grammophon recently released an album of Vladimir Horowitz’s last Chicago performance, titled Horowitz: Return to Chicago.

Horowitz, one of the most acclaimed pianists of the 20th century, performed in Chicago 37 times throughout his long career.

His final Chicago concert, a solo recital at Orchestra Hall, was broadcast by WFMT, and featured works by Scarlatti, Mozart, Scriabin, Chopin, Schumann, and Liszt.

The album also contains two interviews with Horowitz: one with Norm Pellegrini at the time of the broadcast, the other with Thomas Willis (music critic at the Chicago Tribune).

The interviews were aired during the original broadcast in excerpt only, but are presented in full on the newly released album.

You can listen to the full interviews below, and enjoy excerpts from the recordings on Midday with Lisa Flynn. The album is Flynn’s New Release of the Week.
