Live from WFMT: Works by Franz Schubert

Daniel Schlosberg

Monday, February 2 at 8:00 pm

Live from WFMT’s Levin Studio, pianist Daniel Schlosberg performs Schubert’s last completed piano sonata, in B-Flat, after which he will be joined by baritone Ryan de Ryke for the complete song-cycle Schwanengesang (Swan Song), featuring poetry by Heine, Ludwig Rellstab, and Johann Seidl.

Daniel Schlosberg has been described as an “expert pianist” (Boston Globe), and his performances have been praised for their “intellect and passion” (Washington Post). In recent seasons, he has given solo and chamber music recitals at a number of important venues and series, including Bargemusic (Brooklyn), Austrian Cultural Forum (New York City), Sundays Live (Los Angeles), WFMT’s Dame Myra Hess Series, Phillips Collection, and at the embassies of Romania, Israel, Austria, and Germany in Washington, D.C. He recently was a featured soloist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in subscription performances of Messiaen’s Trois Petites Liturgies, for which he garnered critical praise.

Ryan de Ryke is a young artist whose versatility and unique musical presence have made him increasingly in demand on both sides of the Atlantic. He has performed at many of the leading international music festivals including the Aldeburgh Festival in the UK and the summer festival at Aix-en-Provence in France. Ryan’s operatic roles include the title roles in Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo, Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, Blow’s Venus and Adonis, and Händel’s Apollo and Dafne.

Together, the duo has also appeared on WFMT’s PianoForte Salon Series Live.

The host of Live from WFMT is Kerry Frumkin.
