Explore the Beethoven Quartets

Bill McGlaughlin explores the Beethoven Quartets, Monday-Friday this week at 7:00 pm

When Beethoven reflected upon the Cavatina from his Op. 130 Quartet, he said, “Never did my own music produce such an effect upon me; even now when I recall this work it still costs me a tear.” Of course he never heard that music; he was stone deaf.

For nearly 200 years, musicians have marveled at the string quartets of Ludwig van Beethoven. Quartets count among his earliest compositions, and extend to his final opus. This week on Exploring Music with Bill McGlauglin, we trace the life of the composer through this singular body of works, listening to key movements and following the creative evolution of one of music’s greatest minds.

Thank you for a great idea for the week of the composer’s birthday.
