What are the sounds of our time? How does modern life express itself in our music? Find out with eighth blackbird on Live from WFMT. As of 2010, most of the music hadn’t been written − typical fare for this six-member ensemble, informally known as “the birds” (check out videos below).

The birds like to hatch new collaborations. One of the works, erase by Andy Akiho, won eighth blackbird’s composition contest in 2011. Murder Ballades (2013) by Bryce Dressner was an eighth blackbird commission.

Monday’s program features Last Exit (2013) by eighth blackbird flutist Tim Munro. See a video preview:
