Listen to a 2011 appearance on Live from WFMT; Alessio Bax with wife Lucille Chung play Libertango No. 3 by Astor Piazolla:

Update: Alessio Bax, Andrew Litton, and Ilya Shterenberg will perform live on WFMT’s Impromptu, Wednesday, June 4 at 2:00 pm.

Year round, WFMT presents top tier chamber concerts from distant places: Santa Fe, Lincoln Center, Salzburg. Next week, that festival spirit is happening on Chicago’s north shore. The North Shore Chamber Music Festival brings together some of music’s biggest names for a more intimate kind of music-making – duos, trios, quartets, etc.

Festival organizers, violinist Vadim Gluzman and pianist Angela Yoffe, a husband and wife team, seem to have all the right contacts. Anne Akiko Meyers will play, she returns to Chicago after an acclaimed series with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra earlier this spring (she also appeared as a Guest Host on WFMT). Alessio Bax, a pianist whose career has blossomed since his Live from WFMT duo recital several years ago, returns for several performances.

Paul Neubauer

Paul Neubauer, c. Bernard Mindich

Violist Paul Neubauer, who played a WFMT Impromptu earlier this year, returns with several colleagues from the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. Conductor Andrew Litton will be at the piano; and Chicago-native, cellist Wendy Warner will play all three nights.

This week, on Friday evening at 8:00 pm, WFMT presents a festival warm-up, an evening of performances from last year’s festival. WFMT’s live broadcasts from the North Shore Chamber Music Festival get underway next week, with performances on Wednesday and Friday at 7:30 pm. The Festival presents concerts at Northbrook’s Village Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, June 4, 6, and 7.
