This week on Exploring Music, Bill McGlaughlin appeals to an international pool of music programmers. These musical mavens include Pierre-Yves Tribolet of the European Broadcasting Union, Olga Bucklet in Dublin, Lukáš Hurník of Czech Radio—even a producer from Vatican Radio; WFMT’s Steve Robinson and Andi Lamoreaux make contributions as well.
Thursday’s broadcast takes a turn toward the Czech Republic. With composers writing music all the time, it sometimes takes one to know one—that is, it helps to ask people in their own respective countries what the music scene is like. Thursday’s show opens and closes with Sibelius, otherwise the music comes from Czech composers who are virtually unknown on this side of the Atlantic: Miloslav Kabelac, Jiri Reinberger, and Jan Dismas Zelenka—all recommended by Lukáš Hurník of Czech Radio.
Tune into Exploring Music with Bill McGlaughlin on Thursday evening at 7:00 PM to discover what Czech audiences have been listening to for decades.
