Let’s face it, with YouTube, Vine, Facebook, and a video camera in every pocket, a teenager’s life revolves around theatrics. It’s a maelstrom of innovation, so why not harness that energy for a chamber music program?
The Orion Ensemble returns to WFMT for the live Monday night studio series, Live from WFMT. Orion brings a little Schubert and Beethoven to the program, but adds Stravinsky’s L’histoire du soldat, which after nearly 100 years, still packs enough edge to be a strong performance piece for high school kids. Two seniors from the Chicago Public School’s Chicago High School for the Arts, the magnet school known as ChiArts, will serve as narrators for Stravinsky’s post-war road show about a soldier’s deal with the devil. Both students participate in ChiArts’ theater program. Their script was prepared by WFMT’s Kerry Frumkin.
