In an encore broadcast, WFMT remembers Chicago Symphony Orchestra principal oboist Ray Still. Mr. Still joined the orchestra in 1953 after winning an audition with then music director Fritz Reiner. Still retired from the orchestra in 1993. He was one of the most influential orchestral musicians of his generation.
Ray Still passed away earlier this week on his 94th birthday (March 12). In the coming weeks, WFMT will rebroadcast a two-hour documentary on Ray Still’s distinguished career as principal oboe of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (Monday, April 7 at 8:00 PM).
Tune in for this encore presentation of Studs Terkel’s interview with Ray Still from May of 1990; Friday night at 10:00 PM on this week’s edition of The Best of Studs Terkel.
