He’s on the CSO’s calendar for Beethoven 9 with Muti, and has already been cast as Lyric Opera’s Wotan for a Ring cycle, one that’s only just hitting the drawing board. It might be said things are going swimmingly for Eric Owens. In town to sing Vodnik the water sprite in Lyric Opera’s Rusalka (opening Saturday), Owens is making his rounds. On Tuesday the affable bass-baritone became a community ambassador for Lyric Opera; on Thursday afternoon at 3:00 PM he sings a WFMT Impromptu.

WFMT will broadcast the opening night of Lyric Opera of Chicago’s production of Antonin Dvorak’s Rusalka with Ana María Martínez, Eric Owens, Brandon Jovanovich, and Jill Grove LIVE on Saturday starting at 7:15 PM.
Rusalka runs through March 16.
