Grant Park Announces New Season
As municipal salt stores dwindle, and polar vortices hammer the winter-weary, the Grant Park Music Festival pokes its head through the snow to announce Summer 2014. The festival celebrates its 80th season, bringing back two of its past principal conductors Leonard Slatkin and Hugh Wolf. Soloists include Christian Tetzlaff, Gil Shaham, and Stephen Hough. Vocal soloists include Jill Grove, Paul Appleby, and soprano Christine Goerke (who is a hit with Lyric Opera fans). Another popular event returns, BBC composer George Fenton conducts the orchestra with music and footage from Blue Planet.
The free summer festival welcomes the public to concerts and lunchtime rehearsals in the Pritzker Pavilion. Principal conductor Carlos Kalmar and chorus director Christopher Bell lead performances for this 80th anniversary season which runs June 11 – August 16.
