Reflections on a Dream

Martin Luther King, Jr.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

—Martin Luther King, Jr.

WFMT celebrates the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with some of the rich music that filled his life as pastor, the spiritual—songs of faith and hope created by Africans living in bondage in the American south.

Anna Deavere Smith

At one o’clock on Monday, WFMT presents an Impromptu with a remarkable performer who, in addition to keeping a full schedule as a film and television actress (Philadelphia, The West Wing) has devoted her life to advancing social change through art, Anna Deavere Smith. Ms. Smith will discuss the current show, On Grace, onstage at the Harris Theater, a show about forgiveness and survival. She performs with cellist Joshua Roman who will play some of his compositions for the show on Monday’s Impromptu.

In 1997 Anna Deavere Smith founded the Institute on the Arts and Civic Dialogue. She is a MacArthur Fellow and 2012 recipient of the National Humanities Medal. In addition to an active performance schedule, she teaches at New York University.
