It’s a WFMT Impromptu!
International pianist (and Chicago native) Jeffrey Siegel gave a recital in the Fay and Daniel Levin Performance Studio with Lisa Flynn, putting to rest long held misconceptions about Beethoven and some of his best known music.
Did you know that Für Elise, the piece that toggles between an E and a D# (and gets played by every 10-year-old piano student), was a love poem to a woman named Therese? The publisher misread the name on the manuscript. Forever more, we’ve called it Für Elise.
Jeffrey Siegel first performed live on WFMT in the mid-60s with Norm Pellegrini.
