The Haymarket Opera company takes its name from two things: 1) a London theatre that just sizzled in the 18th century, staging one premiere after another of music we still listen to, including a couple dozen Handel operas and the London premiere of Don Giovanni 2) the notorious Haymarket Affair in which Chicago police opened fire on demonstrators—two bits of history that define this opera company as specialists in 17th and 18th century opera, performed here in Chicago.
