Live from UIC, Tuesday at 1:00 PM
A “percussion ensemble” might evoke images of ten metal trash cans tumbling down a fire escape, but The Third Coast Percussion Ensemble is challenging that. The breadth of musicality and range of expression in one of their concerts is heartwarming; after all, everybody’s a percussionist at some level. We’ve all snapped our fingers with a song, or clapped our hands, or banged out “shave and a haircut” on someone’s door. It’s the most inclusive family of instruments (think of what Blue Man Group does with PVC), which delights and surprises when talented musicians step forward and actually bang out something poetic.
The Third Coast Percussion Ensemble is featured on Tuesday’s live broadcast from UIC.
Listen to what they can do with a contemplative piece like Fratres by Arvo Pärt.
(this performance of Fratres comes from Rush Hour Concerts 2013)
