A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Tuesday at 8:00 PM
The Tuesday Night Opera continues its celebration of Benjamin Britten at 100 with the 1960 opera A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Britten and his partner, tenor Peter Pears, adapted the libretto from the Shakespeare comedy. The role of Oberon was written for the famous countertenor Alfred Deller. Britten conducted the premiere at the Albeburgh Festival in June of 1960. Sir Georg Solti conducted it the following season at Covent Garden, a production by Sir John Gielgud.
