Dan Welcher’s “3 Texas Watercolors of Georgia O’Keefe”

July 26 10:00 AM

The artwork of Georgia O’Keeffe is among the most recognizable of all American artists. Many of her paintings can be viewed online, though the legality of posting some of these to other websites is questionable. All the paintings portrayed in the present music by American composer Dan Welcher are online, but do present copyright concerns for this presentation. See below to view similar O’Keeffe paintings.

Dan Welcher’s “3 Texas Watercolors of Georgia O’Keefe” portrays a different painting with each movement.

1. “Light Coming on the Plains” is a series of O’Keeffe watercolors depicting the plains at the break of dawn; the series, from painting to painting, presents differing hues and temperatures.

2. “Canyon with Crows” is most like the scene of the red hills (below).

3. O’Keefe’s “Starlight Night” is similar to the New York Cityscape, but transported to the plains of New Mexico.

For further exploration, the Georgia O’Keefe Museum in Santa Fe, NM offers wonderful online features.
