Michael Mulcahy

Michael Mulcahy

Monday at 12:15 PM

Hear Sonata for Horn, Trumpet and Trombone by Francis Poulenc; also Celestial Suite by James Stephenson at the Chicago Cultural Center in Preston Bradley Hall. The performance is part of the First Monday series presented by Chicago Chamber Musicians. These concerts are free to the public and broadcast live on WFMT, starting at 12:15 each Monday of the new month.

Today’s concert features some of Chicago’s brass-playing elite, including: Barbara Butler and Charles Geyer, trumpets; Gail Williams, horn; Michael Mulcahy, trombone and guest tuba player, Matthew Gaunt.

Composed in 2011, James Stephenson’s Celestial Suite is already popular among brass players searching for something new, different, and catchy for audiences. The piece has three movements: 1. Galileo 2. Newton 3. Hubble.
