David Fray is Coming to WFMT, LIVE

Pianist David Fray

David Fray plays an Impromptu, Friday at 4:00 PM

“…as the wistful theme began, Mr. Fray played it with such aching delicacy that the music seemed almost too sad to speak.”

—Anthony Tomasini, The New York Times

French pianist David Fray (rhymes with pray) makes his CSO debut this weekend with the Mozart Piano Concerto No.20, K. 466. The 2008 “Newcomer of the Year,” according to BBC Music Magazine, has been circling the globe, getting closer and closer to Chicago without actually touching down (he did finally make his recital debut a little over a year ago). Call it anti-nepotism; the 32-year-old soloist married the daughter of Maestro Riccardo Muti in 2008. “We shouldn’t hire him just because he’s my son-in-law;” that’s according to Chicago Symphony Vice President of Artistic Planning and Audience Development Martha Gilmer. Gilmer recalled telling the Maestro: “We shouldn’t not hire him just because he’s your son-in-law.”

David Fray will appear LIVE on a WFMT Impromptu on Friday afternoon at 4:00 PM.
