For awhile now, St, Louis native Kevin Puts has been called a “promising composer.” Starting with a commission from the California Symphony in 1999, he has been coming to the fore until in 2012, four symphonies, and one opera later, he won the Pulitzer Prize.

That 2012 Pulitzer Prize-winner, Puts’ Silent Night, came out of a 2008 initiative by the Minnesota Opera to stage three new works; it was a new initiative, and this composer’s first opera–not a bad score card. In his conversation with Seth Boustead, Kevin Puts talks about what’s next, and reflects on that Minnesota production:
