Expect a lot from this series. Getting underway Wednesday at 8:00 PM, the broadcast series of the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival offers great performers, something old and something new (musically speaking). Celebrating its 40th anniversary this past season, the Festival commissioned works by Magnus Lindburg and by Helen Grime. Conductor Alan Gilbert (Music Director of the New York Philharmonic) offers performances of the two Chamber Symphonies by Arnold Schoenberg; and there are even a couple works by Oliver Knussen.
This week, the series opens with a concerto by Antonio Vivaldi with soloist Lynn Harrell, who, let’s face it, can spend his summers anywhere he likes. Harrell puts it this way:
In the second half of this week’s program, pianist Jeremy Denk and violinist Benny Kim join Harrell for the Bb Trio by Franz Schubert.
