Good morning Lisa. I was listening to the 2 trumpet versions of Vocalise just before 7 and didn’t catch who wrote the second one. The website only lists Copland. My son is a trumpeter as well and he did a beautiful Ave Maria at my mother’s funeral last summer. A diversion for him since we are used to hearing to him play oldies from the 60’s and 70’s with the band Generation or jazz. His idol was Maynard Ferguson.
I like you’re new Chime-In! So much easier to use, although I hope the messages still come through. This is something I haven’t heard you play yet, not that you haven’t already aired it. While it’s still Passover week (amid all the Holy Week music), or appropriate for Holocaust Remembrance Day (April 7), I’m suggesting Erich Korngold’s beautiful choral work “Passover Psalm” (his opus 30). A very poignant piece, written in 1941 at the height of the holocaust. An interesting backstory, this was commissioned by Rabbi Jacob Sonderling who envisioned a new Jewish music tradition and commissioned works from emigres like Korngold, Zeist and Arnold Schoenberg. He was an army field chaplain for Jewish troops in Hindenberg’s army during WW I.
