Each year, music schools produce a new crop of graduates, all pursuing the dream of having a life in music. This evening, George Preston checks in with three who graduated from the Oberlin Conservatory in Ohio: soprano Alyson Cambridge, pianist Spencer Myer and violinist David Bowlin. Alyson Cambridge came to Chicago a year ago, singing the role of “Julie” in Lyric Opera of Chicago’s Showboat. This year, her schedule includes solo performances with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Washington National Opera and The Cotton Club. Spencer Myer keeps a busy performance schedule including recording Copland, Busoni and Debussy for Harmonia Mundi. David Bowlin now teaches at Oberlin as well as having residencies (among others) at Northwestern and NYU. Bowlin is the violinist of the famed Oberlin Trio.
