Listen to the performance
This group is a KICK. Their collaborations are truly inspired: Roberto Sierra, Wayne Shorter, Paquito D’Rivera. They do the old, the new–sometimes they write their own music. These conservatory musicians feed on new inspirations, while digging deeper into their classical roots.
Imani’s new arrangement of The Rite of Spring, by Jonathon Russell, is a substantial piece of music. Stravinsky’s 1913 score employs a gargantuan orchestra. Hearing this masterpiece reduced to five voices is like rotating a precious gem to peer through a different side.
