The star of Carlos Miguel Prieto is on the rise. Last season, he made a splash with the Chicago Symphony, prompting standing ovations and calls for his return. Now he’s back for the CSO’s Youth in Music Festival. Let me be clear: youth in music is NOT just a stepping stone in the life of this young conductor. Though he’s Music Director of the Louisiana Philharmonic, and the Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional de Mexico and the Orquesta Sinfoica de Mineria in his native Mexico, he reserves part of his schedule for the Youth Orchestra of the Americas, an ensemble pulling young musicians from Canada to Chile.
