I’ve blogged about District 97 here at Offmic before. If you are yet unfamiliar with this Chicago-based band, perhaps the first line from their web-bio will serve best in bringing you up-to-date: “District 97 is the only progressive rock band in the world to feature an American Idol finalist and a Chicago Symphony Orchestra virtuoso cellist.”

A challenge is a good thing–as suggested by Katinka Kleijn (cellist for so many ensembles that it’s tough to keep track, including but not limited to the CSO, ICE and now, District 97) when I visited with the band in-studio as they were mixing their first full-length release, Hybrid Child, this type of crossover may be the spoonful of sugar to help the Classical Music be ingested with those lacking formal exposure to this end of the spectrum.
