Mozart: Piano Concerto No 26 in D major, K 537, Coronation (recomposed by Timo Andres): Finale, Allegretto (12:38)
Timo Andres, piano; Metropolis Ensemble / Andrew Cyr
On his new album, Timo Andres pairs the recently composed title work with reinventions of works by two musical heroes, Mozart and Brian Eno. Mozart left much of the solo part of his “Coronation” concerto unwritten, as he expected to play the piece himself. In particular, the left hand is mostly absent from the original manuscript. In Andres’s treatment of the concerto, he inserts his own voice into the left hand and ends the work with newly written cadenzas.
