Shostakovich: Cello Sonata in D minor, Op 40 (29:52)

Emmanuelle Bertrand, cello; Pascal Amoyel, piano

This new album contains two masterpieces for cello by Shostakovich, written 25 years apart. The Sonata dates from 1934, contemporary with the opera Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District. The First Cello Concerto was written in 1959 for Mstislav Rostropovich, who gave its acclaimed first performance.
