Of Dvořák’s works for piano and strings, most numerous are the trios for piano, violin, and cello––a combination of instruments that seems to have held a special allure for him. He wrote at least six compositions for this ensemble, destroying some of his early efforts but leaving four fine examples of which the two on this recording form the last culminating gems.
