**Andrew was not able to join us today due to illness. We will reschedule his performance for later this spring. Instead, today we enjoyed a rebroadcast of a program featuring the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra’s Encore Chamber Orchestra from December, 2011.
Andrew Guo, 13, started piano lesson at age 4 and had his first solo recital at 6. Andrew is currently a scholarship recipient and member of the Music Institute of Chicago’s Academy program where he studies piano and composition with MIC artist faculties Alan Chow and Matthew Hagle respectively. Andrew was a first place winner of Steinway Young Artist Competition, Society of American Musicians Competition, and Confucius Music Festival Competition.
Andrew began making music as soon as he started playing piano. The 5-year-old Andrew’s gift for his mother’s birthday was a piece of music he improvised at the piano. In 2011 at age 12, Andrew won the first prize of Generation Next Young Composer’s Competition. His winning piece, “Hercules”, a quartet for flute, viola, bass, and piano, was on WFMT’s Introductions with Andrew playing at the piano.
As a frequent concert performer Andrew has performed at Grand Park Music Festival, Ravinia Music Festival, Chicago Cultural Center, and among others.
Andrew is a member of The Study of Exceptional Talent in Johns Hopkins University.
