The Triumvirate is a piano-viola-clarinet trio of the Midwest Young Artists chamber program, and they have been playing together for one year.
Under the directorship of Dr. Allan Dennis, MYA provides over 900 young artists with music education for jazz, orchestra, chamber, and theory. The group is coached by Dileep Gangolli, former assistant principal clarinetist of the Seattle Symphony Orchestra. He is the founder and current director of the Illinois Woodwind Academy and performs with various orchestras in the Chicago area.
The Triumvirate is named after the alliance between Caesar, Crassus, and Pompey during the fall of the Roman Republic. The members of the trio all enjoy history, and the name just made sense.
Ari Bakke and Kevin Xu are both juniors at Stevenson High School where they participate in the music program, and Torin Bakke is an 8th grader at Twin Groves Middle School. Ari has studied viola for nine years with Sarah Montzka and Lewis Rosove. Kevin has studied piano for eleven years with Carol Honigberg. Torin has studied clarinet for four years with Dileep Gangolli.
