Tonight’s rebroadcast is at 11PM instead of 10PM due to last night’s live broadcast from Roosevelt University. Preceding the program will be two editions of Exploring Music instead of one.
This week we bring you a performance by the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra from Orchestra hall in Chicago.
The CYSOis almost in its 65th year and serves 450 young Chicago-area musicians aged 7-18 through six orchestras, a chamber music program and composition and theory classes.
This hour, we’ll hear their top Symphony Orchestra in part of Shostakovich’s 10th symhony Lowell Leibermann’s fun Concerto for Flute and Orchestra featuring CYSO Concerto Competition Winner Christine Murphy…but we start with the orchestra now in Samuel Barber’s Overture to The School for Scandal, op 5…music director Allen Tinkham conducts.
