This past May, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s Institute for Learning, Access and Training organized a city-wide festival celebrating the participation of youth in music. The 2011 Chicago Youth in Music Festival which took place May 5 – 15, 2011, aimed to extend and deepen the engagement of youth in music throughout Chicago, foster critical mass and visibility among local youth music providers and strengthen ties between Chicago’s providers and counterparts both nationally and internationally.
A highlight of the festival were performances by the Carlos Chávez Youth Orchestra of Mexico City, Mexico, which took place both downtown and at schools in Chicago’s Albany Park and Pilsen Neighborhoods.
On today’s program, the second of two parts, we bring you a chamber concert given by the full Carlos Chávez Youth Orchestra in the auditorium of Hibbard Elementary School in Albany Park.
