This Saturday, March 19th and Thursday, March 24th, Introductions will rebroadcast a program featuring 18 year old flutist Ryan Zerna of Oswego, IL. The previously-schedule program featuring violinist Alan Snow has been postponed until next school year.
Ryan Zerna, 18, of Oswego, IL, has been studying the flute for 8 years. He has studied with both Dr. Cate Hummel and Hideko Amano, and is currently a member of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra. He has won several awards from: 1st place in the Society of American Musicians (2009) Flute Senior Division, 1st place in the Chicago Flute Club (2009) Senior Division, and recipient of the Edward and Ethel Martin Scholarship from the Union League Civic and Arts Foundation Competition (2009).
In both the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra and CYSO’s Encore Chamber Orchestra, Ryan has played principal parts for three years, and went on tour with CYSO to South America in 2009. As a part of the CYSO Chamber Program, Ryan also played in last year’s Metal ‘n Wood Woodwind Quintet, winning honors in the Rembrandt Chamber Competition and also given the opportunity to play on Introductions last year. He also plays this year in the Zephyr Woodwind Quintet.
