Mitchell Green, 16, of Northbrook, IL, is a scholarship recipient at the Music Institute of Chicago where he studies privately with faculty artist Dr. Julia A. Miller, his teacher since age four. Mitchell also received a scholarship to study under Sharon Isbin, from The Juilliard School for one month at the Aspen Music Festival. Mitchell’s accomplishments include participating in the Music Institute of Chicago’s Academy program for gifted pre-collegiate musicians, winning the Glacking Young Musicians Competition, winning the Guitar Idol contest, receiving second place in the Society of American Musicians competition, and successfully competing in the Guitar Foundation of America’s International Youth Solo Competition.
Mitchell has performed at a variety of venues including radio, festivals, religious organizations, car dealerships, and retirement homes. He has been featured as a guest soloist with the North Suburban Symphony, the Glenbrook Symphony Orchestra’s Sinfonietta, and appeared at the Parisian Salon, the Lake Bluff Art Festival, and the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art. He also volunteers his time to play at retirement and convalsescent homes and particpates in Alzheimer patient therapy. Mitchell has received master classes from Sharon Isbin, Elena Papandreou, Jason Vieaux, Paul Henry, Gene Bertoncini, Frank Longay, Fareed Haque, and Joseph Pecoraro.
Mitchell is currently in his second year of teaching guitar at a music studio in the North Shore of Chicago and assists with music at a Sunday school in Northbrook. He is a Junior at Glenbrook North High School and also enjoys playing the electric guitar, the piano, and drums.
