Mr. Patner, I was on the way to a work appointment when I was listening to your program on WFMT yesterday morning. I am only an amature musician, but a music lover, nonetheless. I have tried to sing Mozart, but I have failed. The melodies are deceiving. You think they are simple. They look simple on the page. They are very far from simple to perform or interpret. So when I heard you say that even though you didn’t want to see another Marriage of Figaro, I laughed to myself when your friends said it was Figaro that was the “real sleeper.” Seems to me that Mozart has that about him, now. We hear so much Mozart and the operas are such staples, but when they are done well, the passion and beauty blooms like a precious flower that we almost forgot about.
