In times when I need solace, I go to the Brahms Requiem.
But an additional musical event and result of 9/11: when I saw all the House and Senate people come out onto the Capital steps and together, spontaneously sing God Bless America was most powerful to me! I subsequently taught that song to all my Music Concepts classes (90 in a class) at NEIU for the next 5 years, until I retired. And I told them that if they even were in a similar situation, they needed to know a song universally.
Also – that song was pasted on the back page of our Lutheran Church hymnal during the WW II, when I was 2-5 years old. We sang it every Sunday, and I loved it. CS
